Linking Methods

THe use of standard subscription forms has been discussed elsewhere in this manual and the purpose of this section is to give you details of other linking methods which you may wish to consider when adding subscribers to your autoresponders.

Direct Email Subscription.

If a subscriber send a blank email to your autoresponder address one of two things will happen:

If your autoresponder requires only the subscriber's email address, then subscibers will be added to your autoresponder mailing list.

If your autoresponder has been set-up to collect additional data from your subscribers AND this data is marked as "Required", then subscribers will be sent an email containing a link to your subscription form and they will be invited to click on the link to continue with their subscription request.

Direct Email Removal.

As all outgoing autoresponder messages carry a removal link at the end of each message, removal by direct email is not enabled on the system.

Direct URL Subscription.

There may be occasions on which you wish to add subscribers to an autoresponder following the submission of a form on your web site, or perhaps following the purchase of one of your products. In both cases you will need to ensure that your form submission software supports a remote call to a URL as in the case, for example, of our own form handling site at 1 Stop Forms.

In this case you can subscribe individuals to an autoresponder from your form submission by the using the following link:

For this example we will assume that your autoresponder ID is 69. This is the number that appears at the end of the URL to your subscription form, which is displayed on your autoresponder management screen. For example:

http://smartautoresponder.com/forms/subscribe.html?69

We will also assume that your subscription form includes one "Required" element to collect your subscriber's First Name and that the input field name which you chose when you set-up your subscription form was "firstname".

The URL for subscription would then be.....

http://smartautoresponder.com/cgi-bin/sa/subscribe.cgi?ar_id=69&email=X&firstname=Y

.....where "X" is replaced by your form handler script with the subsciber's email address and Y is replaced with the subscriber's First Name.

Direct URL Removal.

The process for removing a subscriber from an autoresponder following form submission or purchase on your website is very similar to that described above for Direct URL Subscription.

The link here points to a different script on our site and only requires your autoresponder ID number and the subscriber's email address, together with a confirmation tag.

The URL for removal would thus be.....

http://smartautoresponder.com/cgi-bin/sa/unsubscribe.cgi?ar_id=69&email=X&confirm=1

.....where "X" is replaced by your form handler script with the subsciber's email address.
